Kuwait’s Modern Art Museum is located in Sharq, besides the Maritime Museum and Bait Ghaith. Opened in 2003, the museum is located within a former school that was built in 1939. In Kuwait Transformed Farah Al-Nakib writes that, “by the 1930s more people were sending their children to larger state-run schools… such as the Sharqiyya School in Sharq… because of their more extensive curricula and better facilities.” The museum has many pieces by Sami Mohammed, including a piece entitled “Break Through.” Sami says this is one of his favorite pieces and that, “through this sculpture I tell people that they should not give up, no matter what their problems are, till they reach their desired goals.”

The photos below come from this instagram page and show the building before its renovation.
