Al Mullah Saleh is a historic mosque in Kuwait located along Fahad Al Salem street. At some point, it was renovated and the minaret was altered to a much more modern style. Here are some “then & now” photos. I took the “now” photos taken in September of 2022.

This instagram post states the first photograph below was taken in 1951. The second comes from the KOC Archive posted on 248. The third comes from the instagram of Bader Alshaiji who writes, “a historical picture of one of the beautiful buildings that Kuwait was proud of, which is the building of the Cirlc of Knowledge… established [1936]. In 1949, the government began to build this building in Fahad al-Salem Street near Mullah Saleh mosque, but unfortunately it was demolished and revolved at the end of the fifties. The photo was taken in 1952.”

The first picture below was seen on this post. The next two are postcards seen on delcampe and eBay. The final shot comes from this post.

These aerial shots come from Getty Images and the Instagram of Bader Shaiji. The colored images are postcards seen on delcampe or eBay, the last dated to the late 1970s.

The first image below is a postcard from delcampe, the second a postcard from ebay, the third was seen on facebook and is dated to the 1960s, and the fourth is a postcard from ebay.

The first photo below comes from the flickr of Hartmut Walter, who visited Kuwait in 1977. This instagram post is titled “Fahad Al Salem, the good old days.” There is finally a drawing from Saba George Shiber’s work The Kuwait Urbanization, published in 1964, and a photograph from David C Cooke’s book, Kuwait: Miracle on the Desert, published in 1970.

1980s Kuwait History and Civilization

Here are images of the mosque after renovation. The first image is a postcard found on Delcampe, the second comes from this Instagram post, the third was taken by Christine Osbourne and found on Alarmy. Finally, there are still shots from footage shot in Kuwait in the 1980s.
