Daytrip to Failaka Island

Failaka is my favorite place in Kuwait; visiting the island makes for a great day trip or an overnight trip. Getting to it is relatively easy. The tour company Ikarus (located outside of Marina Mall) offers a couple different options to reach Failaka, including a more expensive slow ferry on which you can take a car or a cheaper fast boat.

During the cooler winter months Dr. Hasan Ashkanani organizes group tours to visit the island, which he posts about through Instagram stories. As an archaeologist, Dr. Ashkanani gives great insight to the ancient archaeological sites.

Today, much of the island are abandoned buildings. Mohammed Alkouh has a great project “Failaka is a Beautiful Island” where you can see many of these buildings. Here are some pictures I have taken while visiting the island.

You can pay to take a quick bus tour around the island, which includes a stop at the Antiquities of Invasion and a camel farm.

There is also Wanasa (Fun) Beach, where you can relax by the shore, and there are places to swim. The old postcard below features a sunset scene from Failaka, as well as images of Ahmadi.
