Modern Mosques in Kuwait

There are hundreds of beautiful mosques in Kuwait. Historical mosques tend to have a more similar appearance (simpler style, single minaret), but mosques built after the discovery of oil and transformation of the urban landscape showcase a range of architectural styles. Here are some modern mosques around Kuwait. Postcards found on eBay or Delcampe.

Al Othman: opened in 1958 and located in Hawally

Al Mullah Saleh Mosque: unsure when it was opened, located along Fahad Al Salem Street

Fahed Al Salem: opened in 1968 and located in Salmiya

Grand Mosque: opened in 1986 and located in Kuwait City

Imam Al Baqer: opened in 2017 and located in the Zahra neighborhood, second photo found on google maps

Badria Al-Jee’an Mosque: opened in 2021 and located in Salmiya, second photo found here

Companions Mosque: located with the Ironmongers Market, or Souq Safafeer

Abdullah Khalifa Al-Sabah Mosque: unsure when it was opened, but has been abandoned since 1990-91 when Failaka Island was occupied by Iraqi forces. Postcards were found on Zazzle

Abbas Mirza Husain Mosque: unsure when it was opened, located in Bneid Al Gar

Al-Bahar: there are many small mosques along the sea, this one is located in Salmiya
